Barwa – Polish soaps and cosmetics from Kraków

Barwa Cosmetics is a family company from Kraków, Poland, in business since 1949. It started as a cooperative on the Main Market Square making Christmas tree decorations, and since 1977 it has been making bar soaps. Since 1950 the brand's symbol has been a colourful parrot. Brand range

Barwa Naturalna (Natural). Shampoos and conditioners inspired by home remedies for hair: beer, brewer's yeast, flax, egg, rice proteins or apple cider vinegar. According to the manufacturer, they contain at least 94% ingredients of natural origin, and the conditioners are designed around the PEH balance that hair-care enthusiasts know well. Try the beer shampoo for dull and thin hair, the flax shampoo or the vinegar conditioner in a tube. There is also a vinegar scalp scrub.
Barwa Ziołowa (Herbal). A classic that many people remember from home. According to the manufacturer, the herbs come from Polish farms: nettle, horsetail, rockrose, mint, black radish, chamomile, sweet flag and hops. Each shampoo is for something different, for example nettle for oily hair, chamomile for light hair or black radish, which the manufacturer intends for weakened hair with dandruff. Alongside them are spray conditioners.
Receptury Natury (Nature's Recipes). Shampoos and conditioners with herbs in three pairs: propolis with burdock to strengthen, castor oil with horsetail to regenerate, and sea buckthorn with ginseng to hydrate. Choose the sea buckthorn and ginseng shampoo or the castor oil and horsetail conditioner.
Hair Journey. Hair care from three corners of the world. According to the manufacturer, each destination is for different hair: Japan (honey, white tea, centella) for hair that frizzes, Greece (olive oil, grapes) for dry hair, and Brazil (avocado oil, keratin) for regeneration. Take a look at the Hello Japan shampoo and the Sunny Greece shampoo.
Barwa Siarkowa (Sulphur). A line for oily skin and skin with imperfections, on the market for more than 40 years. The key ingredient is sulphur, with niacinamide, cica and fruit acids alongside it. According to the manufacturer, sulphur helps mattify the skin and reduce the look of pores. There are soaps, toners, a gel, a scrub and creams, for example the mattifying toner and the 2-in-1 scrub-mask.
Barwa Hipoalergiczna (Hypoallergenic). Soaps, shower gels, shampoos and intimate hygiene gels for dry and sensitive skin, with flax, wheat, aloe, cranberry or goat's milk. According to the manufacturer, they contain at least 97% ingredients of natural origin and are dermatologically tested. Check the shower gel with flax and the goat's milk shampoo.
Bar soaps. These are Barwa's speciality. Since 2004 the company has made them without animal fats, on a plant base. According to the manufacturer, the Traditional Polish Grey Soap has more than 99% ingredients of natural origin, and you can wash your hands, body and hair with it, and even your clothes. According to the manufacturer, soaps with goat's milk, honey and oats are for sensitive skin, while Aroma Soaps smell of mandarin, basil or lavender.
Body: Spa Experience and Algae Moments. Spa Experience means shower gels, body lotions and scrubs with olive oil, shea butter and glycerine, in Orange & White Flowers or Pink Pepper & Violet scents, for example the Orange & White Flowers body lotion and the Pink Pepper & Violet scrub. Algae Moments are light body lotions with red algae: nourishing, hydrating and soothing.
Home: Perfect House and Ania. Perfect House means cleaners for the kitchen, bathroom, windows and furniture, plus room perfumes, in bottles the manufacturer designed to be left on display. Try the kitchen cleaner or the room perfume with pink pepper and amber. Ania spray has been on the market for more than 35 years: you spray it on a hat, jumper or tights to stop them getting static.

How to choose

Start with what bothers you. Does your hair get greasy quickly? Take the nettle shampoo from Barwa Ziołowa. Is it dry and dull? Reach for Barwa Naturalna, Hair Journey Greece or Receptury Natury with sea buckthorn. Frizzy? Hair Journey Japan. If the skin on your face gets shiny and has imperfections, that's Barwa Siarkowa. For dry and sensitive skin, choose Barwa Hipoalergiczna or the oat or goat's milk soap. If you simply want a nice scent in the shower, there are Aroma Soaps and Spa Experience. If skin changes don't go away for a long time, show them to a dermatologist first.
